In Memoriam: Luc Ha Le
The December 12, 2023 County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors meeting was adjourned in memoriam and honor of Luc Ha Le.
The District 3 Office & Supervisor Lee are honored to recognize and celebrate Ms. Ha, our friend and community volunteer. The following was shared at the meeting:
"Ms. Luc Ha was the embodiment of community service, and her kindness and humility was beyond measure. Her positive energy and her smile filled every space she entered, and after saying hello, she would always ask first, ‘how can i help?’.
Luc Ha, born in 1948 in the picturesque city of Hue, Central Vietnam, embarked on a remarkable journey that spans journalism, tourism, and community activism.
After the Vietnam War in 1975, Ms. Ha utilized her knowledge and experience to help with the reconstruction of post-war Saigon. She played a pivotal role in the development of the tourism industry.
In 2003, Ms. Ha embarked on a new chapter in the United States. She was a community advocate from her first day here. She leveraged her skills to foster connections and empower our local Vietnamese community. Her tireless efforts built bridges and closed cultural gaps, she was able to amplify the voices and needs of the Vietnamese community, and helped many families thrive.
Ms. Ha embraces a fulfilling life surrounded by her only son and grandchildren. Her journey is a testament to a life dedicated not only to professional excellence but also to the betterment of communities, marking her as a social activist with a profound impact on both sides of the Pacific.
I met Ms. Ha many years ago, and saw her at nearly every community event, and always with a smile. She was one of the first community members to reach out to my office after I was sworn in to ask how she could be helpful. When we created our District 3 resident advisory group, the D3 Community Roundtable, she was the first to sign-up, and was an active member at every meeting.
She was also our top volunteer! Ms. Ha would attend all of our events, and would help us distribute information to residents. She was at our Earth Day event in Milpitas, and just two months ago she was helping to greet residents at our Day On The Bay festival at the Alviso Marina.
Sadly, we did not get the chance to celebrate her service and volunteerism while she was with us, but we’re so thankful to celebrate her today and share her legacy San Jose and our local Vietnamese community has lost one of our brightest hearts and heroes.
We want to thank her son and her family for sharing her with us."
