Update: December 15, 2022 - Buyback Details

289 firearms, including 12 assault weapons, were collected at the South County Gun Buyback Event on December 10, 2022 collected 

A total of $31,100 was spent in acquisition of these firearms. Additionally, 215 Resource Bags (including gun locks) were handed out, and 91 attendees completed the survey. 

Survey highlight - Most people said they turned in their firearms because they no longer used it, belonged to family member who passed away, or they felt it posed a safety risk.

Join us in Morgan Hill on Saturday, December 10, 2022 for our South County Gun & Firearms Buyback Event

In partnership with the District Attorney’s Office and the Morgan Hill Police Department & Gilroy Police Department, the County of Santa Clara is hosting a Gun Buyback Event on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center, 16500 Condit Road. 

Turn in unwanted weapons anonymously, receive cash - no questions asked

Buyback Event details:
$100 for handguns, rifles, and shotguns; 
$200 for ghost guns and assault weapons. 

Firearms must be functional. Limit 5 firearms per person. 
Please remain INSIDE of your vehicle. No ammunition is allowed.

Note: All guns must be unloaded and transported in the trunk of your car. You must remain in your car. No ammunition is allowed. Funds are limited and subject to availability. Buybacks are first-come, first-served. We reserve the right to limit the amount of cash an individual can receive regardless of the amount of firearms surrendered. Weapons must be functional to receive full buyback.

Transport unloaded weapons in the trunk of your vehicle

People may anonymously hand in unwanted guns and firearms and receive cash in return. No questions will be asked about who owns the guns or where they came from. Buybacks are intended to prevent unwanted or unneeded weapons from causing harm or committing acts of violence.
