Gun Buyback Event - San José/Reid-Hillview Airport on Dec. 2, 2023

In partnership with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office - the County of Santa Clara & City of San José will host a Gun Buy Back Event at the Reid-Hillview County Airport in San José on December 2, 2023 from 8 AM - 1 PM.

UPDATE December 4, 2023:  The San José Gun Buyback Event on December 2, 2023 at Reid-Hillview Airport voluntarily collected 408 firearms.

408 Firearms Collected
133 hand-guns
275 rifles/other
$40,050 spent

Of the weapons collected*:
20 Ghost-guns and ~10 'assault-style' firearms
Including: 1 uzi, 1 sawed-off shotgun, 1 rocket launcher
Additionally, 70 replica guns (bb/airsoft/etc) were turned in

Exchange Details:
➠  Firearms MUST be functional
➠  LIMIT 5 Firearms per person
➠  NO Ammunition Allowed

Compensation:
$100 for handguns, rifles, and shotguns
$200 for ghost guns and assault weapons

Additional Information & Safety Instructions:
All firearms MUST be unloaded and transported in the trunk of your car. You must remain in your car.

Funds are limited to a first come, first serve basis until funds run out. We reserve the right to limit the funds paid to an individual.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office will be distributing gun locks while supplies last. Gun locks are crucial for gun safe gun storage. Participants will also receive information on safe firearm storage, gun violence restraining orders, and mental health, suicide prevention, and gun safety resources. Participants may also complete a survey that will be provided.
